Pretty cool shot from Friday night.

in #cars6 years ago (edited)

Well, things went south for us getting to go racing on Saturday as planned as we had some mechanical issues with the tow vehicle. Kinda sucked but I got a pretty sweet shot from the local track photographer from the Friday night race. This is the old man getting up on the wheel and driving on the inside of someone to pass for 2nd place in the heat race. Gotta love door to door racing at full throttle. We run the white 71 car if you are new to my posts. you can kinda make out the steemit logo on the right rear quarter panel if you squint hard enough.

Wow, that looks like a lot of fun.

wow! I love it to see this post keep sharing to community

Thanks for the reply. Glad you enjoyed it.

That is a really nice shot:) Looks like a lot of fun too!

It is a blast. I truly love it. I could talk about race cars all day every day. That is basically me and my father in laws conversations every time we talk. How to get faster.

That's great that you have a life hobby that you are so passionate about. Everyone needs something like this in their lives to get away from the daily grind:) How about starting a racing car bot? That could be an idea!

I have tried to find people to build a bot. It never works out.

Oh man that looks dicey with the left wheel off the ground, steering must suck when that happens. But brute attitude in "the old man" won that go I am sure.

It is not really that bad. We hang tire quite often. It is a way to transfer weight on dirttrack stuff to the left rear tire for more dig and forward traction. It sounds silly but a 2500 pound car is going to have more dig if it is splitting that weight between 3 tires instead of 4. The right front is kinda like a rutter on a boat. The rear axle actually steers under the car as it rolls onto its side. This setup was kind of an expieramental , we machined some 1 off parts on the right front to keep it rolled over and help it turn through the corner. It worked really well and the left front was on a limiter also to tie it up. Normally it would be about 2.25 inches lower. I was telling @dj123 about it last Friday on discord. Notice how the right front stays pinned down and the left rear comes way up so we can use all the surface area of the flat deck as a sort of wing since we can not run a wing in this class, so we are just using the body as a wing. lol . It is not cheating it is just exploiting the gray area of the rules.

So is that the part that you showed us building a few post back, to help re-distribute the weight?

No, that was us updating a guys car to modern standards. Newer cars use bars about 6 inches shorter than the older cars for better traction and turning.
