Chrysler Unveils Next Generation Ram Full-Size 1500 Pickup Truck at 2018 Detroit NAIAS
During Press Days at the 2018 Detroit NAIAS, on Monday, January 15, 2018, Chrysler unveiled their next-generation 2019 Model Ram Full-Size 1500 Pickup Truck.
The new redesigned Ram 1500 is lighter, longer and wider, with a wheelbase and Cab that is up to four inches longer. From a Powertrain standpoint every Ram 1500 will be equipped with a fully electronic TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Ram 1500 also reduced weight by nearly 225 pounds overall when compared to the previous generation. By using effective high-strength steels, composites and aluminum, the 2019 Ram 1500 dropped nearly 120 pounds from the chassis, with 100 pounds coming out of the frame.
Also helping to reduce weight and increase fuel economy is the Ram’s switch to electric power steering. By using the an electric motor to power the truck’s rack-and-pinion steering system, the engine is relieved from the task of constantly turning a hydraulic pump, improving fuel efficiency up to 1.8% and relieving / adding 5-horsepower.
The next generation Ram 1500 Pickup Truck includes a laundry list of improvements over the previous generation, that Chrysler is certain will be favorably received by consumers.
