Classic Car Spotting: Porsche 911T (1971-1973).

in #cars8 years ago

The first ever iconic Porsche 911 was released in 1964, and this model before you is the 3rd evolution of this classic motor-vehicle. The 911T pictured, was released as part of the E&F Series 911's which ran from 1971 to 1973.

The "T" as pictured here was the entry level model, and there were also midrange (E) and top of the line (S) models. All were blessed with the brand new 2.4 litre boxer engine which produced between 130hp & 190hp depending on the spec. Interesting to note is that the 911t relied on a traditional carburetor set-up for fuel delivery in all markets except for the US, where it received fuel injection. This added up to an extra 10hp to the power. This was the final year that carburetors were fitted to 911's, which adds to the unique collectable qualities of this model. All 911T's received a 5 speed manual box unless they were special order. Efforts were also made to improve the handling of this model to attempt to fix the over-steer that the precious models were prone to due to weight distribution.

A decent condition 911T will set you back about US$100,000. But for this you are getting a particularly beautiful and very collectable piece of motoring history. This one I have photographed belongs to the "Thailand Classic Car Club", and has been resigned to show duties. It is in immaculate original condition. Everything about this particular vehicle just screams painstaking attention to detail. It simply is stunning.

I have been trying to buy a "yard find" 1973 911T for years. The owner is simply letting it go to hell in his back yard. Travesty!

Don't give up. I have been eyeing one that has been parked outside a panel-beaters that hasn't been touched in 5 years, but I'm not ready for it yet.
