A mosaic of carpets in Turkey
Different-colored carpets are seen drying in the sun in Dosemealti of Turkey, making the ground look like an oil painting.
Famous for its artisan carpets, Turkey's carpet industry employs more than 40,000 workers. Exports of Turkish carpets have risen to over 10 billion dollars in the past five years, trailing China in the world.
Before handmade carpets are sent to stores, they are transported to Dosemealti district, where the rugs are laid out in the sun, softening and distressing the colors.
Throughout time, carpets are a reflection of people’s lifestyle and taste during different civilizations. Carpet-making is an art that Turks brought to prominence and introduced to the world.
