Carnival in La Ceiba
Unlike other parts of the world where the carnival time is in February (Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans, etc)in Honduras carnivals are held on the date of the patron saint of the town or city, or some other relevant date. Here in La Ceiba the carnival is held on the third Saturday of May, as the patron saint of La Ceiba is San Isidro Labrador and his day is celebrated on May 15, which is the starting date for the celebrations.
After the 15th there are sort of mini carnivals in different sectors of town with music and some other types of entertainment, then on the day of the carnival a float caravan travels through the main street of town along with horses, dance troupes and other amenities. At night there are a lot of musical groups along this street and the fun lasts until early morning. The carnival held in La Ceiba was begun about 45 years ago and is the largest of its type in Honduras, some say in Central America but that could be hype.
I am just writing about this because I want to obtain the Steemitboard carnival badge, that is why I have no original photographs, I wasn't ready for it and the deadline is February 19th so I had no time, in fact I don't even know if this May carnival qualifies.
