Finding a job is not easy work to do. If you want to get hired soon, writing a good resume is very important, but not enough. Over the years I have read many articles on this subject, here are my favourite tips.

This is your current job

It is easy to say "I have all this personal stuff to do..", but no matter what you do right now, you need to search for work with professionalism. In fact you should take it as your job. Set yourself an agenda, working hours and goals for every day. When your "working day" is over you can spend your off hours pursuing hobbies and interests.

You also should keep up to date with the latest in your field of expertise. Even if you are used having your employer to pay for these things, you are now obligated to spend time and money to keep all your professional credentials, licenses and certificates up to date. Your commitment to excellence is the best investment for you right now.

Interact with new people every day

You should take an advantage of your unemployment and get to meet new people. Why not trying to visit public events, attend local meet-ups or professional gatherings in your field of expertise. Exchange some business cards and present yourself as somebody who just happens not to have a paying job at the moment, rather than as a desperate person seeking to become a peer. Remember that networking is building relationships, not asking for help.

Social Networks

Most employers are looking you up online. Run a quick Google search to make sure what results in association with your name. What you see is the picture, your future employer will get after reading your resume. If there is something you want to change, it is the right time to do it.

These changes will limit mistakes that might cast you in negative light.
