Seems the IMF is pushing back against blockchain based currencies most fiercely where they are most direly needed, and have the greatest potential to transform the lives of millions, in Africa. Who is surprised?
"Bitcoin mining for God" is a good idea for churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. for religious groups that support missionaries in foreign countries. I can see XMR - Monero as the coin of choice to move donation funds (either earned through mining, or donated by members) to places like Zambia to avoid absurdly high remittance fees. It is a bit silly that a church would lie about their mining activity.
For sure, I can see the churches getting their congregations to use their home computers for mining, would be a very clever move
