2019 Toyota Supra Will it Succeed?
A new supra has been in the work for quite awhile now and word has it that a new production supra will be available for sale in 2019, however; all we have seen in Geneva of this year and prior have unfortunately been all concepts. When I had first seen the reveal of the first concept (previously called the FT-1) I was amazed at how the design had turned out and was later surprised that it would be known as the future Supra model.
I knew it was a concept but I had still wished for Toyota to go through with keeping the design as close as possible to the concept. With my hopes held high, Toyota once again announced that they would reveal the Supra to the fans at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
However..... come March 6th, 2018 a new design had popped in by Toyota which unfortunately is still not the final production of the car.
The new concept had been revealed and there were some major changes from the prior one. The nose is not as long as it was compared to the first concept, and the front hood no longer stretches out. Headlights have also been changed but not too much as compared to the first concept. The current 2018 concept has a widebody compared to the first concept.
A 3D rendering video has been shown (below) of the new supra in action
The car may have some sort of 6-cylinder engine possibly powered by an electric motor. It will be available in three variants, 195 hp 4-Cylinder, 248 hp 4-Cylinder, and 335 hp 6-cylinder.
To date, there has been no confirmation of what this car will cost. Some are saying the 195 hp version will start at around the $40,000 range all the way up to $80,000 for the 335 hp version. It could be more it could be less.
Which I feel is a bit too pricey if what we're seeing is still a concept version of the Supra. There are many other choices of cars you can buy at that price like a Corvette or a new GTR.
Toyota has mentioned a 2019 release date but there has still been no full confirmation for if the Supra will release in 2019 or not.
To wrap things up....
The 90s supra was a legend, a legend that became known to enthusiasts worldwide, whether the 2019 Supra will achieve the same results, however, is another question.
I for one hope that Toyota can keep the final production version of the supra as close to the new concept as possible and lower the price a bit more to allow everyone to purchase them.
