Creativity and Cannabis

Creativity is the most important trait for humanity. It's the one thing that separates us from other species…for now. (AI is coming.) So we as humans should cherish that skill and try to be as creative as possible. To that end, nothing makes me more creative than cannabis.

Society should not only legalize marijuana, we should be consuming it like caffeine. Instead of coffee or tea during work breaks (or in addition to), we should get high.

It's not enough for cannabis to simply be legalized. It needs to be de-stigmatized by society. We need to end the stereotypes of thinking it's some dumb intoxication like drinking alcohol or that only lazy "stoners" smoke weed. Cannabis doesn't make you dumb and lazy—it's just that a lot of already dumb and lazy people tended to smoke marijuana when it was illegal. Back then, it wasn't very smart to take the risk of jail time just to get high, so smarter people tended to avoid that risk by avoiding marijuana.

Not that all people who used cannabis while illegal were unintelligent and/or risk-averse. Just that many intelligent risk-averse people who otherwise would have used marijuana, chose not to, or had no easy way to acquire it.

But now that marijuana's becoming legal in more and more places, more and more "normal" people are using it. I am such a person who never became a regular user in the past because of its illegality and difficulty to obtain. Now with marijuana legal, I use it almost every day. If you are already a smart productive person without cannabis, using it can actually be a performance enhancer by making you more creative.

We need to stop looking at using marijuana as taking a drug. Or stop looking at "taking a drug" as a bad thing. Because we already do it every day with caffeine. That's as much of a drug as cannabis. But there's a stigma to smoking weed as opposed to drinking coffee.

There shouldn't be, though. It's essentially the same thing: A performance enhancer that will make you more focused and more creative. Not everybody will or should use cannabis, just as not everybody drinks coffee, but anybody who wants to should be free to without judgment.

Again, creativity is the most important life skill. If you're not doing a job that requires creativity, it will soon be replaced by robots. And if you are doing a job that requires creativity, then surely you would want to be more creative. Cannabis can help you do just that.
