Yes, discord is worth the effort. There is also a group called steemsilvergold that you might want to get affiliated with. Getting followers - engaged followers - is the KEY. Discord is where you actually engage with people. I suck at it. If you are good at chatting, you will be a bigger fish than me in no time.
