What Are Charas & How To Make Them

in #cannabis7 years ago (edited)

What Is Charas?

It is a marijuana concentrate that is made by hand rolling fresh cannabis plant so as to form small and compressed beads. They are rolled using the hands, and in the process, a black substance is produced {this black substance gives the hand-rolled cannabis concentrate its name}. The person rolling the fresh cannabis should squeeze them enough to make them as small and compressed as possible.

Initially, they originated from India and the Himalayans. However, a North Indian Village, Malana, is where the best charas is found. Nonetheless, they are becoming popular in other regions of the world, including Amsterdam.

How They Are Made

The making process of charas requires expertise and experience. Unless you do it correctly, you might not get the product that you expect. Even though it seems easy to make them, you need to be keen with your timing. That said, here is a look at the process of making the cannabis concentrate;

• Plucking The Flowers

It all starts by picking the cannabis flowers about two weeks before they can be ready for smoking. (it is not always necessary to pick the flower at all) ... At this point, the buds are tinier and extra delicate compared to the mature plants. However, they contain higher levels of tetrahydrocannabinol {THC}. THC is the major chemical compound in marijuana, which is responsible for the ecstatic feeling. Most cannabis farmers go for young buds instead of the ripe buds because they take a shorter time to rub.

• Rubbing The Buds

After the flower are picked, some leaves will be plucked to give a section of the stem enough space for handling it with ease. The next step involves the rubbing of the buds slowly between palms of the hands. The speed will increase slowly as the buds soften up. Keep in mind that buds rolled in slower strokes will deliver a higher marijuana concentrate quality. As the rubbing continues, the plant will start producing oils along with residue that resemble tar. This will mess up the fingers and the palms.

When the tar-like substance {charas} is released, it must be gathered on the thumb or scraped from the hand onto some clean paper. Also, the bud must be squeezed with more pressure and compress it into a tiny ball.

Keeping the Charas Fresh

Typically, that is all it takes to make the cannabis concentrate. It is all about squeezing them to release all the THC and making it into a small, compressed bud. One thing about the Charas is that it must stay fresh at all times for it to deliver the expected effect to the user. After the charas is gathered as needed, it will later be formed into braids and ropes. This will help to keep them fresh and prevent drying.

Also, braiding and roping the charas helps to maintain the doses. This implies that each bud will release a similar dose when it is smoked. There will be no incidences of some braids having a higher concentration than others.

Charas For Smoking

After the rolling and braiding process, the potent substance will be ready to be smoked. They can either be smoked along with tobacco or plainly. In India, the final Charas was initially blended with tobacco and rolled into a cigarette for smoking. Alternatively, they can be rolled directly into a blunt or joint without the tobacco, especially for those that don’t smoke tobacco.

Keep in mind that the marijuana extract is more concentrated, and with a higher THC level than the dried cannabis leaves. The ecstasy effect is way above the regular marijuana joint. So if you need to smoke one, make sure you take it slow.
