The Legal Battle For CBD Freedom
At the end of last year, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) decided to make the move to announce that they were implementing new rules surrounding cannabis. With those new rules came the surprising new restriction against all cannabinoids, which includes CBD extracts, making them a Schedule I drug.
This upset many folks for a number of reasons, aside from the obvious violation to natural rights, but there are millions of people who use CBD to treat a variety of physical ailments; they don't know what they'd do without it.
A number of doctors have been treating patients for years with CBD oil, namely children with epilepsy because it's been known to help with seizures.
And CBD products don't have the THC compound which produces any sort of high to the user. Given that so many families and individuals are finding remedy with this product, it's safe to assume that these new restrictions will only cause more harm than any supposed good, to prevent people who need this from being able to get it.
Many companies have been producing non-THC cannabis extract products for years, and this new rule change would make those farming industrial hemp for CBD products in violation of federal law.
It didn't take long for lawsuits to be launched in response to the reclassification.
The Hemp Industries Association (HIA) along with at least 2 other companies has already filed a lawsuit against the DEA to challenge their rule change. In a document pertaining to the case that was obtained a few weeks ago, it was reveled that the HIA was arguing that the agency had abused its authority in failing to follow necessary steps in scheduling new drugs under the Controlled Substances Act.
They say that there is no legal basis for the DEA to make this rule change to the code, banning cannabis extracts like CBD products in this way. They argue that the DEA doesn't have any solid justification for doing this and for criminalizing cannabinoids, especially given as so many people have already proven to be helped by them.
Cannabis advocates argue that to lump CBD in with THC and to assume that they are the same or provide the same experience, is a rather ignorant move to make. Though they are still sorting the issue out in court, many are hoping that the courts will reaffirm that CBD and other cannabinoids should not be categorized as controlled substances federally and therefore the DEA should have no jurisdiction in that area.
The next step is for the DEA to file their response by June 2nd.

This is a great post for a minnow like me to look at to shape my future posts after. I enjoyed breezing through it, and the fact that you have your sources listed at the bottom, it makes it a more intuitive read.

thnks for the kind words!:) looking forward to following your posts!
Using CBD as a treatment for certain medical conditions is all well and good and frankly hard to argue against.
But citing this use as an excuse to legalize it for recreational purposes is a different matter altogether.
It's often stated that unlike marijuana, CBD oil features low THC concentration and hence it should be ok to consume. This is very dangerous over-simplification of its impact and side-effects.
I have had a 1st hand encounter with the serious consequences of CBD oil after a very close acquaintance consumed it regularly for months. At the beginning, it seemed to work! It clears the mind, helps focus and makes one feels good about him/her self
However, when the consumer undergoes a great deal of stress (say tough job with unforgiving boss, marriage problems, failing business...etc.), CBD starts to show its ugly face
My acquaintance decayed into a different being. His/her judgement was completely impaired, attention/focus were severely weakened, was in constant nervousness and insecurity. Under such conditions, his/her natural impulse was to over-consume more of CBD to try to help things out more, which of course exacerbates the situation even further. Things have deteriorated so much that his/her constant bad judgments would draw even more and more criticism from his/her social circles for they do not understand his/her abilities are damaged due to the “influence” of CBD. Ultimately my acquaintance started to develop early stages of schizophrenia and began to run suicidal thoughts in his/her head.
Thankfully, he/she managed to abandon CBD (with low THC it was a relatively easy thing to do) and is now back to the person we’ve always known.
CBD oil is not a toy. Its dangers and effects have not been adequately researched, understood and documented yet. It needs to go through a great deal of scientific research and vetting before making it legal and allowing our youngsters to consume it on the streets.
Maybe your friend should try LEGAL alcohol and cigadeaths, i mean cigarettes instead, maybe that will help. J/k since we all know what those lead too, with or without scientific vetting.... and no underage person ever consumes alcohol and cigadeaths, and cancer from cigadeaths doesn't cost local and county health care anything anyways.... and when those that get The cancer seek THC/CBD we shall refer them back to alcohol and cigadeaths instead
This is LITERALLY (your stupid comment @ialkeilani)
THE Stupidest thing I have read today on the internet today... and I just got up.
You've got a very 18th century mind filled with superstition and ignorance.
PLEASE refrain from commenting about cannabis in the future until you ACTUALLY
learn what it really is. Your ignorant rant is right out of the movie Refer Madness and reflect the mind of a child like understanding of things.
Cannabis has been around for thousands of years as a medicine. It's been lost to the western world for the last 100 years because of Prohibition, NOT because it's dangerous.
I'm sorry YOU or YOUR FRIEND had a weird (non life threatening from the sounds of it) experience with cannabis. Maybe YOU and YOUR friend should Opt out or just decide not to use it.
BUT! IF YOU EVER get in the way of ME or MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS use of cannabis, you'll be in for a very bad time. There is NO JUSTIFICATION for the continued prohibition of the VERY WELL UNDERSTOOD Plant!
Just because YOU don't understand it is NO RIGHT to block others from access to it!
Do you understand?
Lol! really...
Not sure about you but I consider suicidal thoughts to be life threatening
I'm not in a position to block you or anyone else..that's up to the legislative and law enforcement processes (I pray they don't get influenced by the lucrative tributes manufactures of these supplements are ready to hand out like in the cases of Tobaco and Alcohol). My comments were intended to warn people about what they might get themselves into (in the long run) if they start to consume it after reading few superficial blogs and articles about how great this thing is since it has no psychic component to it. After seeing the results before my own eyes and living the experience, I feel obligated to speak out since wherever I read online majority thinks Cannabis are such great "performance enhancers" with no harmful behavioral side-effects... and it's up to the readers to heed this warning.
For those who want to reap short-term boosts and remain vulnerable to an accelerated mental breakdown (when hit by the right psychological stress), I say go for it and have all the CBD they want!
And if you really think CBD and its likes have been thoroughly researched, I challenge you to point me to a single study that meets this minimum standard before we can take it seriously and concluseively:
These, in my opinion of course, constitute the bare minimum before declaring this thing to be safe to humans to consume. Certianly I won't be allowing my children (before they become adults and pick for themsevles) to consume it without such comprehensive quaily reserach conducted by non-biased parties proclaiming it to be safe. If you know of something conducted even close to this standard please point me to it instead of calling names, stereotyping and issuing meanlingless threats
I wish you would find a different avenue to argue...nobody is interested here in wasting their time any further on it likely. 👍 you hold ass-backwards views on cannabis and CBD
learn about natural rights that might be a good investment of your time.
A single first hand use case is not sufficient to prevent other people from using it.
There are plenty of people who say that they have smoked cigarettes for 30+ years without ill effect. Does that mean other people will not get cancer from smoking them?
There are people with anecdotes about how they survived a car wreck by NOT wearing a seat belt. Does this mean we should all stop wearing seatbelts?
While I hate to hear about the issues your friend had, and the distress it caused you, this is NOT a worthy justification to keep it from others.
it is someone's natural right to decide what they put into their own body. :)
I completely agree! And I realized that I left one little word out of my post that demonstrated that. Oops.
This is a philosophical debate really at its core. I disagree of course. One cannot harm him/herself especially if he/she have others who are dependent upon them (parents, spouses, business partners, children..etc). Otherwise, suicide should be ok and legal??
I realize there are countless ways people can choose to hurt themsevles with, but society should do its best effort to minimize this occurrence
