Increasing Number of Veterinarians Are Treating Pets With Cannabis

in #cannabis8 years ago

Veterinarians in Essex are doing something a little different, in choosing to treat pet pain with cannabis. Animals that come in with disease or severe pain are able to find relief from the cannabis treatment, just like humans have similarly found. They treat pets with ailments like arthritis, cancer, seizures, and chronic pain issues. As more people turn toward this plant in an effort to find a natural remedy for their pain, it's no wonder that they too would be wondering if the plant could also offer their own pets a way to receive a natural pain remedy.

The veterinarians at the Essex Animal Hospital that are choosing to treat the pets this way, insist that they are using a cannabis oil that is made from hemp and therefore it doesn't contain the THC ingredient that offers the 'high' that most people are familiar with when it comes to smoking or ingesting cannabis. The THC is also suggested to be toxic to animals. Veterinarians at the hospital say that the marijuana is helping to reduce pain for the animals, it's also contributing to the shrinking of tumors, and other benefits.

Cats and dogs have sensitivity to marijuana and that is why the doctors insist on offering the pets a CBD cannabis oil only in order to try and help them with their pain. And it is competing with a lot of big pharma pet meds on the market. And the Essex Animals Hospital isn't the only one seeking to treat pets in this way, there are other veterinarians out there as well who are also turning to cannabis as a remedy for pets. There is also an increasing number of pet-specific products being introduced within the cannabis market.

I gave my dog RSO in the last 2 years of his life. He lived to be 16.5 years old. He was a Sheppard Rough Collie cross and in his senior years had trouble with hip arthritis. It worked like a charm.
