The Cannabis Chronicle for April 4th, 2018: 

Sonic tries to bum your high as the cannabis space get's buzzed on blockchain. And legal marijuana states, awash in cash from exploding sales and a licensing scheme along with punitive taxes and regulations, try to solve the banking problem with guidance from Beauregard. Good luck with that. But something needs to be done, when in just over ten years cannabis will beat Coke...the soda.

First it was Coachella making it official in California, now that it is "legal", you still can't smoke at the festival where everyone is smoking and more. But now, it's official, no toking. Then an IHOP tried to stop half of their patron base at 2AM, pot smokers not welcome. The corporate office was quick to clarify, stoners are welcome at IHOP, that was just a rogue manager reacting to a complaint. Now a Sonic in a not so weed friendly southern state is over the contact high through the drive-thru window. 

High Times: Sonic Is Begging Customers to Stop Smoking Weed In Drive-Thru  By Burgess Powell  

"This week, the fast food restaurant Sonic is begging customers to stop smoking weed in the drive-thru. This comes after the Mississippi Sonic reported an epidemic of stoned drivers."

The Restaurant In Question: A Mississippi-based Sonic reported that two weeks ago a drive-thru customer rolled down their window to order food, and blew smoke into an employee’s face. This was the last straw for Sonic employees, sick of their stoned clientele. Shortly after the smoking blowing incident, manager Yasman Freeman put a sign in the window of the Gulfport restaurant.According to The Sun Herald, the sign reads: “If you are smoking weed in the drive-thru you will not be served! Please show some common courtesy and smoke and air out before pulling up to order.” 

IS BLOCKCHAIN THE FUTURE OF CANNABIS? Maybe California will figure out a track and trace system using the latest trend, since all the rest are getting hacked, failing or just not in effect, like here in Cannifornia.

MJBizDaily: Marijuana businesses experimenting with blockchain technology, but skeptics persist  By Omar Sacirbey 

"A small yet growing number of marijuana businesses are adopting or experimenting with a nascent technology born out of the cryptocurrency phenomenon.Advocates say the technology, known as blockchain, could potentially: Solve the payment and banking hurdles facing cannabis businesses, Help companies obtain loans. Be used for seed-to-sale tracking – a common requirement in legal marijuana markets in the United States." 

CANNIFORNIA IS THE PLACE TO BE! POT FARM LIVING IS THE LIFE FOR ME!  There's Green in them hills, $7 billion, here we come! If we can get over the high taxes and regulations, all cash business, and a roll up of the medical collectives.

New Cannabis Ventures: California Cannabis Licenses Now Represent 34.5% of All U.S. Licenses Issued  by Ed Keating, Co-Founder and Chief Data Officer at Cannabiz Media 

"California issued more than 5,000 marijuana licenses during the first quarter of 2018. This equates to 65 licenses issued per day. If this pace continues, there could be 20,000 California licenses by the end of 2018 California currently has more active marijuana licenses (5,369) than Colorado (3,206) and Oregon (1,792) combined."

  A polite way to describe Sessions’s fanaticism on issues like immigrant rights, gay marriage, and drug-policy reform would be to call him “inflexible.” Yet this hasn’t stopped John Chiang, California’s state treasurer, and a slew of other officials from states where cannabis is legal from attempting to bend the attorney general’s ear in a bid to, possibly, change his mind. Last week, Chiang and treasurers from Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Illinois sent the attorney general a letter, officially requesting an audience to talk about cannabis. Specifically, the treasurers want advice from the Justice Department on how cannabis outfits might hope to legally use banks. 

 

Bloomberg: Cannabis sales forecast suggests it may surpass soda by 2030  By Jennifer Kaplan, Bloomberg

Soda sales are on the decline as the U.S. legal cannabis industry is expected to reach $75 billion in sales by 2030

 "Pot may be on its way to beating pop.The U.S. legal cannabis industry is expected to reach $75 billion in sales by 2030, according to research firm Cowen & Co. That’s almost as large as the North American carbonated soft drink market in 2017.With the industries’ diverging trajectories, weed may be poised to take the mantle as the larger industry. Cannabis is growing rapidly as more states legalize the plant. Nine states and Washington, D.C. now allow for recreational pot use. That means more than one in five American adults can smoke, vape, eat or drink it however they please. Cowen previously predicted that the market, assuming federal legalization, would reach $50 billion by 2026. That seems small now, according to analyst Vivien Azer. “New forecasts suggest that the market is already that size,”
