Another little (sad) post about POT.

in #cannabis7 years ago

Greetings, Steemians!

WARNING: This post may gross you out and just make you sad. Proceed with caution... But it's totally suitable for work. 😉

I generally try to get out a pot post on Friday nights, but just couldn't do it this week. I simply got behind on other things. (Not to mention Windows 10 eating my computer...😟)

The hubs @chrisroberts and I have been sporadically trimming our ladies. We've run into some sad issues that we are having to deal with.😔

First, spider mites.🕷️ We got these early on and attempted getting assistance from someone in town... Unfortunately, this didn't work as well as hoped and upon cutting them down we discovered...THEY LIVE!

They are so tiny and icky. We did a little research and found that the easiest way to get them out of the bud is to dry it a bit before trimming (we like to fresh trim normally). So we cut 'em down and hung them upside down.
Here's a pic of what the top looked like after a day.

They basically flee for higher ground and moisture. Totally freaks me out and makes me all itchy. It sucks. Here's another pic. I already put tape on it and killed several hundred. It's now been two days. A BUNCH more came out.

I also took a little video so you could feel the heebie jeebies too, but luckily for you my computer is sick... so that's not happening today. 😶

Have I sufficiently grossed you out?

Next up on the list of problems... SEEDS.

So, last year Colorado started to farm Hemp.

Hemp is the male version of cannabis... basically. Where cannabis creates FLOWERS or BUDS that we've grown to love, Hemp creates seeds. When together, a lady plant will start to seed and nobody wants that, except the lady plant. The entire reason the buds become so medicinal is because we are keeping the females AWAY from the males. This makes them (the females) produce SOOOO HARD. They are trying to get the attention of any dude so they can complete each other, create seeds, and ensure the continuation of their kind. You know, like all weeds. 😃

"Well, why does this matter to YOU, Carrie?", you ask.

Back up to that heading...

Now, outside in HUGE fields there are a bunch of dude plants flinging out their seeds far and wide! I totally thought that the 30+ mile buffer would keep us safe, but it IS windy here....

Last year, many of the local weed farmers were complaining about their ladies seeding (or maybe seeding) with the impending Hemp grows coming. Turns out, they were right! It's kind of a bummer, as now, when you break open a little bud, there may be seeds. That effects the weight, the smoke and many other factors.

Here's a little bud I just broke up of our Green Crack plant. And low and behold, not one, but TWO fully developed seeds.

And finally, the last little problem with our pot.

Mildew

It got suddenly cold at night and our Krome's the White plant STARTED (we caught it early) showing signs of powdery mildew. Just on the outsides of a few of the shade leaves. To play it safe, we took her down. I totally didn't get a pic of any (it was a very small amount), but here's one I found in an old forum from 2011 and edited to be able to see better. It's the big spot. The little dots appear to be mite damage (cause I'm familiar with that😒), not powdery mildew.

Okay. That's it for the saddest post about pot ever.
Hopefully next time it will be more joyous.

You might have to put them under a tunnel with some clothes barrier to prevent cross pollination.
