It seems to me that it takes longer for a clone to get established than a plant from a seed. I think it's because the clone already has a stalk, but they have to grow a new set of roots before they can grow much on the top.
Of course, sometimes a clone is the only way you can get a variety when there's no seeds available for that variety.
You do what you can with what's available...
