Ditch weed - what is it?

You have probably heard one or more of your friends refer to dodgy bud as "ditch weed" but what exactly do they mean? Is it the strain name? Usually, what they are referring to is the quality of the bud, low quality nugs that taste like poo and just gives you a head ache.
Ditch weed is a slang term for cannabis plants that have gone feral, escaping their enclosure to grow freely in the wild, the name came from industrial hemp which can be found growing in the ditch on the side of the road, in the thousands. The only drawback is, this shit wont get you stoned! "Ditch weed" is usually a strain of cannabis ruderalis which produces low thc and is no good to smoke, you will just give yourself a ripping headache!

Here is an article about some cops "busting" a massive cannabis crop which turned out to just be "ditch weed" growing naturally in the bush.

So basically, if you are out driving, and you spot some weed plants growing in the ditch on the side of the road, don't hit the anchors, just keep on driving by knowing that you just avoided a monster headache!
