I just found myself describing how I keep pipes and bongs clean and I thought "why not post about this." Here we go. We all know that cannabis is about as harmless as anything can get but that doesn't mean a dirty pipe can't get you sick. I have personally seen this happen to someone and they were sick for a month with a terrible pneumonia. Plus resin tastes bad and can make your smoke out less enjoyable. The solution is simple. Keep your pipes clean.

I know resin is a bitch to clean but I am going to share a method that works better than any other that I have tried and even outperforms store bought bong and pipe cleaners. Better yet, it is cheap, simple, and easy.

All you need is some powered dishwasher detergent, hot water, and a piece of wire from a notebook.

Simply fill a large container with very hot tap water and a generous amount of the powered soap. Stir it to insure that the soap doesn't all collect at the bottom and completely submerge your pipe. Let it sit for several hours and rinse thoroughly. This will remove 95% of the filth (sometimes a second soak is required if the piece is really dirty). Next shape your wire to reach the inside of your pipe and remove any specks that are left. Lastly rinse again and dry your pipe.

Now you have a clean pipe, you don't have to worry about getting sick, and your weed will taste better.

I have never seen this method harm the color or fuming on the glass but as with anything proceed at your own (pipe's) risk. Just don't be too rough with the wire so you don't break your anything.

Have fun everyone and be safe.

Have you tried rubbing alcohol (95%)?

Yes it didn't work as well for me though. I have never weighed the pipe before and after cleaning but 95% is close. I don't know what it is about that powder but it cuts right through the resin and leaches all the oil out of it so it just falls right off after that.

Never tried it with dishwasher soap. I usually use alcohol and salt, but dishwasher soap could be more convenient. Thanks for the tip!

No problem. It took me years to figure that out. I tried it out of desperation with a pipe that was so clogged and difficult to clean that I was ready to throw it away.

Nice, I usually add a few droplets of water and put in the microwave for like 10-15 seconds then use a paper clip. Doesn’t get it super clean but it’ll get most of tge big stuff. A little rubbing alcohol takes the rest out. Your way sounds way easier.

It is easy, it just takes a little time so you want to have a back-up pipe to use while you are waiting. Sometimes It also helps to use your hand to make a seal around the mouthpiece and your sink head and just use the pressure to force everything out. this works well If you get a big clump to break loose and it doesn't want to come out. shaking them around in the soapy water helps too.

The chemical composition of the resin can be easily done away with by using soap and rubbing alcohol mixture and soaking it in that solution for a couple hours, then rinsing it off and out very well.

I never tried mixing the two but I will give it a shot.

It's what I used back in Arizona when I needed to clean my glass pipe. I eventually got to where I just said screw it and just bought a new corn cob pipe for $5 every so often though.

Or if all else fails you can't beat a pack of papers too.

I've done that on more than one occasion, luckily I can roll very well.
