The Weed Nuns

in #cannabis9 years ago (edited)

The Sisters of the Valley, based in Merced, California, are most definitely not the ordinary type of nuns you have probably heard of your whole life. Want to know why?

Well, for starters, The Sisters are on a mission to heal and empower women with their cannabis products.

And, I’m pretty sure most nuns don’t grow weed

Sister Kate, its leader, is quick to remind anyone who is currently reading about them that she is not a Catholic and neither her order is a group of “real nuns”. In fact, the organization is based on the Beguines, groups of women in the Middle Ages who led lives of religious devotion without the input of men or the domination of the Catholic Church.

They grow only a type of non-psychoactive cannabis super duper low in THC, the chemical in weed that gets you high; instead, their plants are rich in CBD, a chemical compound that have a number of medicinal benefits.

Their process of cultivation is based according to the moon cycles and their products, all organic, treat a variety of aches from back pain to migraines, even hangovers.

The Sisters turn the hemp into cannabis-based balms and ointments, which they sell online and ship world-wide.

And despite what you may think of Sister Kate, or how she might sound a lot like a religious figure, make no mistake, she’s actually a businesswoman with a growing empire making over $60,000 each month.

“The spirituality is for us, and the servitude and activism are for the people.
The servitude is our medicine making and our activisim is to change the laws
to make them more equitable for everyone”

Sister Kate

Pretty cool, right?
