Sam Houston National Forest
On our trip back from Galveston, TX we decided to stop at an area north of Houston in a National Forest. There was supposed to be free camping at this site and it seemed like it would be a great place to camp.
The Houston area is very warm this time of year since it is so close to the Gulf of Mexico. It was about 20 degrees warmer than my home state of Oklahoma.
The grass and wildflowers were blooming, birds were chirping, and the smell of pollen was in the air. Spring was here in south Texas and it was great.
The area we picked was off of a well maintained Forestry Service road. There are a few established hunting areas and this is where we chose for camp. Some spots are better suited to single vehicles with tent campers, and some are larger allowing a families or a camper/RV access.
We stayed for one night and wished we had more time. The area was quiet, peaceful, and secluded.
Looks really nice!
