small complement: I think some readers are wondering why (a^x) '= ln(a)a^ x. By definition a^x = e^(xln(a))and (e^u)'= u'e^u ---> e^(xln (a))' = ln(a)a^x
(I posted a small enigma (logical suite), try to solve it ^^)
With the substitution of u = x ln(a) and the calculus chain rule you get the result of ln(a) a^x as you have mentioned.
