Father and son - oil painting
This picture is by far one of the most difficult challenges I have under taken in a long time and new to my online posts. Yes you steemians get the exclusive online first of this piece. It was a commission for a good friend who supplied two different pictures and wanted different things from each picture placed into one painting. I had to take shadows and reflected light into account on the different aspects as well as being mindful of tones and colours. I originally tried to make one picture out of the two in a computer program for reference purposes and sizing as the two pictures supplied were taken from different distances on different days with different poses but it just didn't work so I had to actually use my artistic ability to make this work. Alouugh very tough going I found it very rewarding as the picture progressed. I have never painted a motorbike with people in the same picture until now. And Alouugh there was a lot of black in this picture a no no in the art world lol. I think by making my black colours up from within my primary colours ie warm and cool blacks to suit different areas I think it has worked out very well. The detail on the t shirts was a bit tricky as I tried to capture as much reality as possible. Also painting the flesh in such a small area and trying to achieve a likeness was hard going. But I got there in the end. And the result is evidential in the end picture. I normally prefer to do my own thing paint wise but occasionally I will take on a painting if I feel I can do it justice.
The painting was a painstaking few months in the making but I am quite happy with the result. Hope you like the clips to try and give you an idea of progress stages in the painting.
Great drawing, @jakeknee! Very cool details and I think you got their anatomy right, which is not always easy. Nice to see a dad supporting his son like that. They usually yell something like "A bike? You wanna kill yourself? No, you will never have a bike as long as you live with your parents!"

The father and son both have wonderful expressions and certainly a family resemblance. The motorcycle almost looks like a photo in some places since it is so realistic. I can imagine how difficult it would be to work from two photos.
In future - to get your your photos to the right orientation, upload with busy and then copy and paste those photo links to any other steem dapp. Busy works for me when all the others flip my photos. I do not have any idea why this happens :)
It's a lovely family portrait! I can see that it is a father and a son :) They look alike :) I like their smiles and I really enjoy how the father is hugging his son. I can see that he loves him over everything..
You invested a lot of time and effort in painting this motorcycle. It is so detailed and the proportions are perfect!

I love familial paintings (okay excluding certain families we can all agree don’t need to and should not exist), and yah did a good job on this one. From all the brush strokes, to the details, the perspective of the painting and the attitude carried out, done all so fine. Feels very impressionist to me with the fuzziness (which can be a good thing!) of details, yet I can feel the realistic details (even if cartoony in some places) of the motorcycle. (For those not in the know: impressionism was an art movement in about the World that gained massive momentum in Europe in the mid-nineteenth century that cared more for the sensuality of a piece than pure details or romanticizing/idealizing something.)
To go back on that cartoony comment I made earlier with the motorcycle: fo’ sho’ I can extend the cartoon realism of the father and the son as well. As they do look like a distinct style but avoiding idealization and pure realism, yet I feel more of the sensual bonding of a shared habit/nack/hobby that ties them in stronger. Like the commerization of the passing of the father’s trade to the son’s; before of course the son actually takes the hobby into full swing. Any a which, I like how oil on canvas is coming back in (Steemit) art communities and I want to see more artists attempting oil on canvas paintings. Also congrats on that @curie upvote!~ :p

No matter what you went through during the process, you did a great job! The painting looks so real, so you can be proud of yourself. I understand it wasn't easy, putting a scene together requires great imagination but you did a great job! Well done!
I think it must be pretty challenging to draw people from two different photos, combine them together, and make sure that the expressions and likeness are captured nicely. You did a mighty fine job here :).

Agreed, very impressionistic as well. Capturing the good nature and close bonding of father and son in this oil painting. I think it’s very sweet, despite being a commission. :p

good way to invest time. a good painting, well done friend of mine. I like how the motorcycle looks, there is no doubt that they are father and son. In the drawing the similarity is noted.
