Time: 9-20-2001; nine days after the attacks on the Twin Towers and Pentagon.

Waikiki Beach, on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, would normally have more than a hundred people along this hotel at any given time, walking on the sand and enjoying the perfect weather. Because of the recent acts, people were reluctant to fly and tourism had practically stopped. Military guards were everywhere and that alone was unsettling.

Walking on the deserted beach alone was a constant reminder of how the world had changed.

Even so, walking on the beach alone was a path into serenity and peace while leaving turmoil and anger behind.

It was almost as if the world had ended
