bwphotocontest - Nature's artwork of symmetry: The passionflower

in #bwphotocontest7 years ago

This lovely flower bloomed in our garden after years. While it has an enticing color, i thought a BW photo emphasizes natures intricate artwork of symmetry.

The flower is more commonly known as the crown of thorns. It is said that passionflower got its name because its corona resembles the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ during the crucifixion. It symbolizes Christ's suffering on the cross.

It is also known as Krishnakamal in India. As per Hindu mythology based belief : is believed with reference of Hindu epic 'Mahabharata' that :

There are about 100 of blue petals - one for each of the Kauravas.
5 of the yellow ones in the centre - one for each of the Pandavas.
The green bulb in the centre symbolises Draupadi, the queen of Pandava,
The three filaments are for the holy trinity of Brahma-Vishnu-Shiv and,
The radial in the centre is the Sudarshan chakra of Lord Krishna.
