B&W Photo Contest (Nostalgia) -- Swimming down the Memory Lane

This is my entry for @daveks B&W Photo Competition: Nostalgia

This is a photo of the river in front of my village, a longhouse in Sarawak. Those small boats or “sampans” are used to cross the river to get to the neighboring village. As calm as it seems, there are actually a lot of crocodiles in the river.

Living in a city, it is always exciting to go back to the village where my grandmother lives. My siblings and I like to swim in the river with our relatives and also celebrate Christmas with everyone. We also get to experience life without phones and television as there is no electricity in my longhouse.


However, it is not often that we get to go back there. This picture itself was taken almost 6 years ago. One of the reason is the difficulty to get there. The journey to my village takes 6 hours with a 4-wheel drive car. And the road is also risky that only experienced driver, who is used to transporting people to and fro my village, dares to drive on the road. Due to this riskiness, my mom always look for excuses to not bring us there.
