B&W Photo Contest Travel: 4-Legged Chicken In India Being Sold As Food In Market--Does This Look Appetizing? (Imagine Where Cheap Processed Fast Food Comes From)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #bwphotocontest7 years ago

Greetings!

I find world travel especially--when not in hotels, resorts, and tourists sites--to be one of the most valuable lessons about how real life around the world works.

It is my intention even with contests to share knowledge, experience, and insight into important aspects of life. I share lots of photos from around the world to help provide perspective, another piece to the puzzle of life. The clear and more accurate picture we have, the more competent we are at succeeding in life.

Yes, that's right, this is a 4-legged chicken being sold as food in a large city market in India.

Many people I am sure would be unappetized by the thought of eating a 4-legged chicken and probably be put off at a photo of one such as here. Does this chicken look appetizing?

Probably not, yet just imagine the quality of food that comes from highly processed cheap food like fast food often manufactured, packaged, and processed in different countries.

It is wise to consider the quality of your food and where it comes from, not just for its impact on you but for its impact on life as a whole. A photo such as this helps motivate or stimulate contemplation or the putting together of a more clear picture about the world.

Below is my official entry into the contest without logos. I want to give a special thanks to @daveks for hosting this contest all these months as I find much enjoyment in them.

To @sweetsssj for being the guest judge; it is a lot of time to look over so many photos.

Finally I would like to thank our Steemit Hero @papa-pepper for not only sponsoring this project for so long and helping so many succeed here on Steemit, but for being a truly high example for Steemians to look up to.

I entered this photo because it motivates an experience. I hope you enjoy my photography, which is a medium I use to share life experience, knowledge, and wisdom from travel and beauty around the world.

As Always, I appreciate your support and welcome your feedback!

Wow! I'd forgotten about this photo, but a sad reminder of what people really consider food. Who knows what caused this chicken to have four legs and what it may carry to pass on to the unsuspecting consumer of it!?! Sad state of affairs we have created for ourselves. Hopefully one day we will learn. Thanks for keeping it real and sharing the truth @quinneaker. Your posts are always informative and often mind-blowing. Keep it coming, the world needs this information.

Yes Indeed!

No chicken looks appetizing, until it is processed through the factory and ready for consumption.

(people working there must gone crazy)

Disgusting.
On so many levels.

In the US, that 4 legged chicken would not have lived longer than a day, because it would have been discarded like this gif shows. 99% of the chickens in the US we consume are cornish cross freaks. They reach about 5 pounds at 5 weeks of age and are harvested. Typically, the female cornish cross are discarded after hatching because they don't grow as big and fast as males. For egg laying chickens, the males are discarded after hatching because they don't lay eggs. Some estimate more than 33% of the chickens hatched in the US by commercial chicken hatcheries are discarded the day they hatch.

I'm gonna try to raise some of my own chickens. I'm moving next door to a confinement chicken production facility in Arkansas, with 4 long chicken houses. That should be interesting.

I might also try to raise a few turkeys. The turkeys sold in grocery stores in the US get so big, so fast, that their reproductive regions don't line up and they can't reproduce on their own without artificial insemination. Yep, those Thanksgiving dinners are almost all the result of artificial insemination, that just sounds weird to me.

Bred for a small lifetime towards consumption...

Insemination of turkeys? Very sick :(((

Insemination, probably. Not sure what it has to do with turkeys? They are chickens...

Yes, disgusting but true....

OMG! What in the world are humans doing with their lives anyway?

Yes, disgusting but true....

Can't you tell? All is open on the interwebs (facebook, looking at you!) ^^

I need to be vegetarian again this post beats me hard!!

I believe that eating some meat of high quality can be healthy. With that being said most meat is not only low quality but very unsustainable and dishonorable.
So being vegetarian is a general good practice.
SteemON!

:D I admire you so much thanks for ur words

I appreciate your encouragement and support!

Yes being veganish is also a generally wise practice. Though as with all things there are downsides and upsides and doing it properly in balance is the key!

yes you ONLY say meep.....Surprised u still have a 49 rating with all the people flagging spam these days...

That would be a very good choice! :)

I´m preparing the kitchen for Veggie life!! :D <3

Poor chicken! Genetically damaged, and people can eat it. Very sad :(((
Chicken is a living creature with senses, not food!

Yes its sad~

Hello my friend! This pic really gives one a kick and makes you think deeply a lot about what many people are consuming without realising where the food comes from.
Really not appetizing at all, thanks so much for spreading the word man!
@progressivechef

That was the purpose of the post!
Thanks for confirmation!

Nice story from you, thank you for sharing this with us @quinneaker

Happy to share!
Grateful you find it valuable!

Unless the flesh is diseased, what makes four-legged chicken any different to eat than two-legged? On that topic, are you aware of how far typical meat chickens have been selectively bred from the breeds they were started from?

Yes I am aware of all of this.
The photo is just a way to get people thinking.

buen post, espero tu ayuda en mi blog
