Quaking Aspen's

These beautiful cold weather trees have an attractive white bark which is mostly smooth. Its common for aspen trees to grow to 100' tall and they can live to be 40 to 150 years old. Also they are quite adaptive growing in clonal colonies, each new tree starts from the root of another. Under windy conditions the leaves will quake or tremble which is how they get their respective nicknames quaking or trembling aspens. This photo was taken in the mountains north of Flagstaff Arizona using a Pentax 6x7-2 medium format film camera and is being entered in daveks bw photo contest themed " trees ".

The black and white use make it even better

I really like it both ways.

Cool and interesting image. Those are some neat trees and the black and white adds a whole different dimension to it. Makes me wonder if there's a Blair Witch out there somewhere. Heh.

The black and white adds a nice effect, your right. I guess another Blair Witch could creep up anywhere.

Wow! The trees aspen are amazing. 👌

A very tactical aspect description. Thank you sir!

Yes they are amazing trees one of my favorites. Thanks back to you sir.

These trees look a lot like birch trees I remember from Russia. Birch is considered a national Russian tree. They grow everywhere in Russia and people love them.

Yes they are similar looking but the birch bark is quite special to me, beautiful to look at and it works great for lighting fires in the wilderness, it peels off like paper. They are more of a northern cold climate tree.

Oh, I see now. Maybe they're related somehow?

Do you have winter now? I live in Europe. At us now summer. And the trees are green. Soon we will harvest berries and vegetables!

HI, summer starts here in a week. The 33rd parallel runs through the middle of Arizona as well as the northern tip of Africa. That makes places in the US and Europe comparable with season and temperature. By the way it was 101 degrees in Sedona yesterday.

Thank you for your reply! It's interesting to communicate with people from another continent!

The effect that you give to these trees is very attractive in this photo. Definitely these trees do not exist in my country, we do not have that cold climate.

Thank you and on that note black and white needs an appreciable amount of contrast to look good.
