Red and Black Map
I already made few posts about this incredible butterfly. Maybe you wonder: so why then you made it again? Reason is very simple, in first generation which one we can see in early spring and in second generation which I noticed is appear before two days, their looks is completely different.
Yes, I'm speaking about same kind of butterfly called Map (Lat. Araschnia levana) it belong to the family of Nymphalidae. In first generation they are predominately orange-red while in second generation they become mostly black with few white applications. Why this happen, frankly said I have no clue.
Beside buch of photos, I also made a short video about this beauty. First records I made during month of March and last one during last two days. Sorry for the non existence of sound in video. Original sound was so terrible because of wind, so I decided to turn it off.

Congratulations on the well deserved Curie @biti! Yay! How amazing that you were able to capture 2 generations of the Map butterfly and the photos are beautiful as always. Loved the video too. It was hanging on for dear life in the wind. Thanks for using #butterflyday tag! : )
Thank you @whatisnew! :) Butterflies are my fascination, I like spend my time around them. :)
Wow, I had no idea they could alternate markings and coloring over generations like that. Nature is amazing. I wonder. Do they migrate like the Monarch. It could be that the markins have adapted to fit into different environments. Or perhaps it is the food they eat and different times of year. Do the generations occur within the same year at different seasons or do both markings appear at the same time. I would guess that one of these questions would help us get to the bottom of the difference.
A beautiful looking post:) Thank you for posting:)
This kind of butterfly is not migration type. Orange-red version ie. 1 generation appear in early spring in March, while 2 generation (black version) appear in June. What is the cause for such drastic change I really don't know yet, but I will find it out soon or later! Thank you! :)

You might had spent hours and hours to capture such perfect snaps. Even the legs are visible clearly in few of the photos..

hi @biti
I know that butterflies are subjects known just for the possible rapidity of evolution in a few generations (they do it for adaptation to the environment and the change for them consists in changing the color of their wings), of course such a fast I never felt it !! maybe you made an exceptional discovery !! but are you sure it's just the same butterfly ?? by the way beautiful photos !!
congratulations on your curie vote and thanks for sharing with us
