Marketplace Of Hitler's Political Manifesto
Mein Kampf (My Struggle) – Hitler's political manifesto that is banned in many European countries – is a well-thumbed book in India.
Some early Indian nationalists such as Vinayak Savarkar and Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar were deeply impressed by Nazi ideology; their political descendants will include the BJP's L K Advani and the Shiv Sena's Bal Thackeray, who often have referred to Hitler's ideas and strategy, publicly.
Sohin Lakhani, proprietor of Mumbai-based publisher Embassy Books, notes that students are keen buyers because "Mein Kampf is seen as a strategy management text". To meet the market demand, they reprint the book every quarter.
According to the Times Of India (TOI), before the 1992-93 Mumbai riots, Bal Thackeray said something shocking. Thackeray:
In Mein Kampf, replace the word Jew with Muslim, that’s what I believe.
A study conducted by the TOI, in 2002, has shown that 17 percent of Indian students liked Hitler over Netaji (Indian), Mandela (South African) & Lincoln (American).
Dilip D’Souza, an Indian journalist, wrote in a 2012 editorial, Hitler’s Strange Afterlife in India, that when mostly upper-middle-class students taught by his wife at a private French school in Mumbai were asked to name the historical figure they most admired, nine of 25 students picked Hitler. In this particular exercise, the Fuhrer easily ended up the highest vote-getter.
Kerala, one of the most literate Indian states, held a book fair dated 1 - 11 March, 2018, at Marine Drive, Kochi, Kerala. During the event, a 48-page children’s book came under fire for including Hitler as Leader ‘Who Will Inspire You’.

In elementary school I brought Mein Kampf for reading hour and they thought I wasn't at all serious. I can remember vividly when, Mr. Bean crouched down next to me and, looking not at me but at the book open on my desk, asked if I knew any jews.
