TIL: The world's youngest mother gave birth at the ripe age of... 5

So, today morning I was quite lazy at my day job so I did one of my favourite things to do when I am trapped in front of a computer screen. And that is to visit Wikipedia and read random articles one after the other..

Now, now, if you start really dwelling into Wikipedia and click one link after the other you are bound to reach some really dark corners at some point. And this is the dark corner I reached today:

The title of the wiki entry is pretty much self explanatory.. Youngest women to have given birth and there are some really, really sad stories there, as most, if not all, girls in that list are rape victims, often by their own kin.

Still, it's fascinating, clearly from a biological and scientific point of view, to know that the female body is capable of giving birth at such a young age, even if it is a) with the help of C-section and b) due to an abnormal condition called Precocious_puberty.

Quoted below is the summary of how Lina Medina came to be the world's youngest mother: 

Lina Medina, from the Ticrapo District of Peru, gave birth by cesarean section in Lima at age ​5 1⁄2. The infant was a 2.64 kg (5.8 lb), 47.5 cm (18.7 in) boy named Gerardo. Medina's parents, who assumed their daughter had a tumor, took her to a hospital in late March, where she was then found to be 7 months pregnant. By interrogating her parents, the doctors understood that Medina had entered into precocious puberty (when hormone glands are activated earlier than normal) very early after her birth. Although Medina's father was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse, he was later released due to lack of evidence, and the baby's biological father was never identified.

Very interesting is also the story of Mum-zi, who became a grandmother at the age of 17!!!

Mum-Zi was a member of Chief Akkiri's harem on the island of Calabar. Her daughter also gave birth extremely early, making Mum-Zi a grandmother at age 17.
