Gratitude Day 17/62: @japfive

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

Yesterday was a very interesting day for me. I hosted a Steemians in my house and he did something for me that I'll like to share with you guys and thank him for.

The Story

It all started in January when I got a new apartment and the Estate manager went on and on promising to do a lot of things which he ended up not doing. One of the things he promised to do was that he would fix a broken ceiling in the bathroom. There were many other things he promised to do and which he didn't do but after weeks of complaining and reminding him, I decided it's best I just fix the things with my own money. I fixed the door and many other things but the broken ceiling was in the bathroom and it wasn't really a pressing issue so I just left it. One of the reasons I fixed the things was that I was always traveling and I wanted to fix things quickly and I was busy handling so many things.
The cost of hastily fixing the things and getting things done quickly was lower than the what it would cost me to run after the elusive Estate manager.

@japfive came to my house yesterday and then after a few hours of talk about crypto trading and binance, I saw him off to the gate. Just when we were about to get him transportation back to his house, we saw the estate manager . @japfive went into a fit of rage and expressed his displeasure at his dishonesty. The Estate manager started to panic. It was a very funny scene actually, @japfive has a way of using his military experience to "intimidate" troublemakers. His father is an air marshal in the Nigerian military and he also has a bit of military exposure and experience. The estate manager pleaded for his dishonesty and I appealed to @japfive to calm down.

Immediately I got home, the estate manager came with his tools and aid and fixed the broken ceiling. I was amazed at his fast response. When he was done, he asked me if there was any other thing I needed and begged me not to blow up the issue and that I should report to @japfive that he has done the work.

I learned something very important from this event that happened yesterday. One of the things I learned was that most artisans respond only to force. There was a time I paid a carpenter to fix my wardrobe which was infested with termites. It took about a month of incessant calling and shouting before he did the job. What if I just intimidated him with force?

Anyways, I'm grateful for friends like @japfive who know how to intimidate bad actors to act rightly. If you live in a country like Nigeria where some people don't respect non-violence, you need people who can do the job of feigning coercion and motivating unscrupulous elements to act scrupulously.

Unscrupulous: having or showing no moral principles; not honest or fair.
