Huawei MateBook X Pro
When Huawei launched its first proper laptop just over a year ago I questioned if it might be a step too far for the Chinese manufacturer. In the final stage, the Matebook X proved that skepticism largely unfounded. It was a touch rough around the edges, but had real hope. Today, the Matebook X Pro takes that uncut stone and works it into a polished gemstone.
The Huawei Mate Book X Pro is our new selection for the best laptop money can buy at 2018, after years of this list being dominated by the (still excellent) Dell XPS 13, which is now in second position. While Huawei hasn't been making laptops for as long as more established manufacturers in this lean, it has absolutely knocked it out the ballpark with the Mate Book X Pro.
There’s oh so much more to the Huawei Matebook X Pro than its most eye-catching feature: a webcam that pops up periscope-like from beneath a key in the center of the keyboard’s function key row. You can get that pretty much at face value: it’s a carnival trick, designed to cause little more than catch the eye at a swanky press launch or in a promotional picture.
What gets to the Huawei Matebook X Pro so good is that it absolutely nails every corner of laptop design, from the covert to the size and weight, connectivity and execution. This is one great laptop: now let me tell you why.
