@miniature-tiger's Monthly DApp Report: Steemit Losing PowersteemCreated with Sketch.

in #busy6 years ago

@miniature-tiger released the DApp report for the month of November.

I like seeing analysis like this since it really does help us to understand what is taking place on this blockchain. Applications are what is going to interest the masses and it is good to see so many getting attention.

Overall, there were two things that jumped out at me about what was presented. The first is that overall usage of the Steem ecosystem is down. This should come as no surprise to anyone since it is also reflected in the regular reports compiled by @arcange and @penguinpablo. Both of them show how activity on the Steem blockchain consistently slowed throughout the year.

Unfortunately, the price of STEEM, along with all other cryptocurrencies, dropped at an accelerated rate in the month. For whatever reason, Steem activity tends to follow the price of STEEM. This makes little sense to me but it does show how interest is still based upon price action. It is a logical outcome considering those who tend to promote Steem do so based upon the financial rewards.

That said, we can expect the activity to remain on a downward trend as long as the price does the same.

The second thing that jumped out at me is the fact that Steemit was used for 50% of the posts and comments on the blockchain. This is a good thing as explained in the numerous posts about how we need to break away from Steemit on many fronts.

At the same time, the number of authors and payouts for Steemit.com also decreased from the previous month. Those two categories are still over 50% yet they did decrease. Part of it is the fact that Steemit took the biggest hit for the slowdown in activity.

Here are the numbers.

I suggest everyone check out the post. There are a lot of interesting graphs and more data than I am covering here.

There was a tweet that went viral a number of months back that shown someone's analysis of both Ethereum and EOS only having 8 applications between the two of them with 300 users. It is exciting to see that Steem has 19 applications that exceed that amount. While it could be a different metric that is used, MAU versus DAU, it does show how things are starting to spread out on the blockchain. Over time, hopefully we will see this keep growing.

It is data like this that tells me Steem is one of the leading blockchains. There is a lot of hype out there about what is taking place on other chains. The problem is the data does not reflect it. What we see here proves that even though the numbers for Steem are decreasing, the ecosystem is thriving. Development is bringing out new applications that start to find their way onto this list.

Engrave is example having only come online recently yet rings in at #41. I expect the bloggers on Steem will be drawn to that application over time.

My optimism comes from the development so I love to see reports like these. As the applications keep growing, we should see added interest in what is being offered on here.

The future of Steem is bright.

For a comparison, I posted the numbers from the month of October.

Good read man.. Shared with my friends. Hopefully, when the value of steem rises again, we should see more projects and communities springing back to life. A lot of exciting new projects developed or designed by ordinary community members depended on payouts for revenue and the decline affected them in a way.

Also, I do hope that with time, there is an evenly spread usage of the blockchain. The steemit.com dominance is still there because it was the flagship product and very few people know about what's happening on steem. It's not all about steemit anymore. We're becoming specialized and even more decentralized.
Great job as always.

Good to see dPoll is one of the green ones :-)

That's re-assuring with what's happening from last week. Sounds good. Thank you.

interesting! I still find it a bit difficult to navigate between all the different steem based sites and often end up back on steemit.com, especially as many links to posts goes there, and it is confusing if you get linked to yet a new site. But I do enjoy the different features and niches of the other sites!
I think it is quite natural that the activity goes down with the price, as people feel their time is less rewarded and thereby get less encouraged to be active. Even if most people claim they are not here for the money, it is a big encouragement to see a high payout on your post! And for some people the daily struggle for income is relevant and then it seems more natural to spend the energy elsewhere if steemit doesn't seem to give enough for the time and energy spend creating.

I have been using Steemit less every day on purpose as well... I have gotten used to a change in my engagement and think that it will be best over the long term as more DApps continue to improve and provide a much better experience that Steemit ever did.

I use Steem every day regardless of prices.

I love how you try to put positive spin to everything steem related but people are not buying it ;-)
maybe you should change that 'vision 2025' to 'vision 2075' ;-)))

we all know that toxic atmosphere on steemit is the main reason for user exodus , and nothing is done so far to curb that behavior...
