Commenting Can Be Very Profitable: Start Leaving Them

in #busy6 years ago

I am a huge advocate of posting comments. A couple weeks ago I did an experiment to determine how much I could make from comments in a week.

As I was surfing around today, I came across two comments that did rather well. Notice how both of these comments got more than the articles did.

The first was on an article I posted this morning. @dan happened to come by and give an upvote. Not bad compensation for a well thought out post.

The second was hit up by a number of people. Someone got a bit of creativity which pays like a trending article.

Would any of those three payouts hurt anybody's feelings?

The lottery says you have to be in it to win it. Here we can say you have to make the comments to strike it big.

Commenting can lead to some big money.

@dan would have gained a lot more visibility if he had upvoted big your original post as well.

Interesting upvote nonetheless. BTS community approval, yes, but funding? My understanding is that, with its built-in inflation, an EOS blockchain is self-funding.

Lots to still understand about EOS, both on the theoretical side as well as the real world side. Hope we see more official information and not just upvotes.

Hey @cryptographic. I meant the following thing: EOS is self funding, but still, it is EOS community, who's going to decide how to use these funds. I doubt it should be EOS initiative to do any changes related to Bitshares. After EOS software is released it will be up to Bitshares whether to migrate and become EOS dApp. If such a decision taken - it'll be related to pretty serious development effort that should be funded by BTS.

First.. I have not signed up for or used busy.org ... yet. Maybe one day I will.
I'd be curious to see a post about what the advantages are aside from getting the slider bar before you reach the 500SP level.

Ok, onto my comment. Early on I have made some decent pocket change from my comments, but lately it seems as though no matter how much thought, value to the post I add by commenting or time I put into the my comments they seem to go wayside of earning. But I will be persistent; I always am.

I've also noticed (like today I did a real nice post) and it got tons of UPvotes, some comments but the payout isn't even $2. Makes me think "hmmm, what am I doing wrong lately?" But again, my persistence and dedication to steemit and my blogging page are here to stay.

A couple of reasons for that in my opinion.

To start, the price of STEEM is down, so we are seeing a lot less in returns. The second thing that I noticed is that a lot of SP is going to the "war" which is affecting all of us. Those who upvoted much of our content are focused upon using their VP in the other direction. Plus, since a lot of the delegation is focused elsewhere, those of us who were spreading it around carry a lot less vote total than before.

You are not unique on that one....we are all experiencing the same thing.

Thanks for this really insightful reply. I hadn't even noticed the decrease, but then I don't have that much time on here to compare anything to. I don't have a clear idea of "normal" to notice variance.

You mean the war over things like people posting an article an hour then using their massive SP to upvote their own posts? Or the bot wars? Or something I haven't even come across yet?

If you have to ask @indigoocean, it is best to not know.

It is best to avoid it all...that is my view anyway.

All your points make sense. I had a feeling about the delegations, SP and VP being shifted elsewhere too.

But I still comment like there's no tomorrow. It's the way I am constructed and the way my brain works. I am a talker and a commentor here; that'll never change.

Not only is there a lot of SP participating in the flag wars, there is also the growing amount of SP that is being delegated by bid bots.

And those comments were crazy hahahaha, I wonder how do you manage to find them?

I noticed is that a lot of SP is going to the "war" which is affecting all of us.

Every fibre of my being is screaming "Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!" Is there no peace way to resolve this conflict and get on with we do best, which is curating and creating content, engaging and perhaps learning something along the way?

Just like the real life wars... Always making the rich richer.

I think activity on Steemit is just down in general (don't have any facts to back this up just an opinion/observation).

Keep up the great work and all that you do for Steemit. It's nice to see these awesome comments on posts even when things are a little slow/down on Steemit.

I know steemit has gone through a few lulls in the past and I have hung in there. This is my second home and I have no plans on going anywhere.

Yes, the activity is going through a little hiccup and some growing pains is all.

Definitely think Steemit is seeing a lull. It seems common when the price of SBD is in the toilet.

I agree with you @bethwheatcraft.

It seems the attitude goes down which stops people from interacting. Too many pay attention to price actions.

The only way to get by is just keep plugging along and doing what we always do. The price will turn around at some point.

I don't even understand why the price of STEEM or SBD matters unless you're cashing out or trying to buy in. Maybe that's the case for the people you refer to.

For me, I just turn everything into SP so the only thing that matters is the relative price between SBD and SP, in that I'm better off waiting to convert SBD to STEEM and then SP when the price of SBD is above STEEM's, which has been the case most of the time I've been on here.

You do realize that SBD is supposed to be pegged to $1 right? I would hardly call the price of SBD "in the toilet".

Maybe you meant that price of Steem?

When SBD was around 8-9 dollars, this place was hopping. Compared to 8-9 dollars, I would say it's kind of in the toilet at just under 3.

I am right here with ya!

I credit my having gotten off to a pretty good start on here mostly to having focused on commenting at first. That allowed me to build relationships with people while I was still figuring out what to post.

While I've made a few pretty hefty payouts from some old-timers upvoting some of my comments (nothing like those in your screenshots though!) mostly it's more like a steady trickle. But you know, those steady trickles add up, especially since I don't find I have something substantial I want to write a post about every day.

Yes, indeed! I've seen so many times when a comment earns a lot of money. Hundreds of dollars and even thousands sometimes! It's hard to get such rewards from comments and I think it's more of a luck thing to earn that much. Of course, luck alone is not enough, but it's a big factor!

Certainly there is a degree of luck to it in the sense that it takes a whale coming by and seeing/upvoting it.

Yet I can guarantee that if one does not comment, the upvotes will not come. 😁

Haha, definitely! Only by doing it you can have a chance to be seen and given an upvote by a whale 😃

I am a big factor!

I had never seen a $300 payout in a comment, that´s amazing, I think that everybody that has free time should be commenting in the platform, that way we are learning from the posts we read, and we might be able to win the lottery, literally...

A payout like that in the comment is worth more than my entire account, even bigger motivation to be smart and active in this great community.

You just never know who's watching and reading. I noticed it's a lot easier to comment on quality posts. I guess I need to just jump on these posts sooner. Task, can you send me a schedule of what time your next post will be, Central Time please? So I can jump on it. Thanks 😎

If I had a set schedule I would....but I dont. I post when the mood hits in all honesty. Some days I have more to say than others.

That is why I do two most days, three sometimes, and once in a while four.

I try to get one in first thing in the morning...about 530-600 your time.

I know, you're up about 3 hours earlier than me. I can tell you do alotta research on your posts. That's why I come here to get true updates, not fake news. Also, the people that comment on your posts are very knowledgeable. 😎

I really need to start commenting more. I've been finding myself time crunched with work picking up again, but I used to make like 25% of my earnings from comments, and that number would be higher if it weren't for you.

Comments are more lucrative than posting early on imo

Commenting, at least quality, takes time. One has to read articles and watch videos. Yet it does pay off.

We all need to find the time to do more of it.

In my view, we cannot do too much of it. The platform is in dire need of quality commentors.

Leaving out decent and good comments is a good way to earn but then there's a challenge, getting on these posts early to read it through, absorb the content and then leave a meaningful comment takes a bit of time and there's their possibility of a very good comment not getting noticed because others just dropped the regular "nice post, thanks for sharing this information" comments.
Consistency has got to be the key though, and a little bit of patience.

It all depends on the auther of the post. I can verify that @taskmaster4450 will find your comment and will reward or at least reply to it.
That’s what makes his blog so great. I never had an question unanswered by him. I reallly appreciate authors who go through their replies cause it takes a lot of time. I only have by average 3 to 4 comments on my postings but each genuine one will get a reply. Just like replies on my comments are all read by me and answered if the discussing is still open!

That is awesome then. Im seeing his replies all over the place as well. This seems like an interesting blog to constantly visit.
Always nice to see a follower giving positive reviews about who they are following. Thanks bro

Dreams of getting to a $100 post here on Steemit one day LOL And seeing comments getting this much LOL Boy oh boy, I have some work to do :)

Great point though, I always try to leave comments that don't just say 'great job keep it up' but actually add to the conversation.

That's the true power of Steemit I think....The conversations :)

Yes well $100 for a comment is extremely rare...but this shows it does happen.

My point is there is always money in the comment section.

And yes conversation is crucial. This is so important for every aspect of the blockchain...individuals and the entire ecosystem.

Agree completely. It makes it so much better too, for everyone....Just a little response to a comment or quick conversation adds so much to the community.

I agree with the point about EOS and bitshares peeps creating a work proposal to properly walk the process of making itself relevant on eos platform.

and what you say about the lotto -

You got to be in it to win it.

Simple Sophistication here

I will be challenging myself to rinse and repeat the modality.

Best regards @taskmaster4450
