Genre Popularity in Games
Hello Fellow Steemians , I want to talk about popularity and success in game genres and I want to bring up some questions , As you all know there are always popular genres in gaming industry like , First Person Shooter , Moba , Mmorpg , Strategy and recently it is Battleroyale FpS format .
Brought to you by Statista
Sometimes I really think that , game developers are changing minor stuff and serving these games to us , but basicly they are in same Genre , think about Dota and League Of Legends in end of the 90's MoBa 3 corridor format was quite succesfull because it was a quite new concept to people , therefore it earned massive success in and then FpS shooters and in the early beggining of 2000's after Ultima Online MMORPG and Other Multiplayer games emerged they were a hit too. Whet were we playing before all these ? Arcade games in arcade saloons because it was new too.
Moba Game Format
What is dominating twitch.tv and all other games now ? BattleRoyale format like Pubg and Fortnite. Basicly when game developers create a completely new unique Genre we can say that it gets players and they are always succesfull. However these game genres emerge like every 5-10 years and I really think it is a long time when we consider the resources we have for game development. What do you think about the thoughness for creating completely unique games ? Don't you feel that these big Studios are reserving what we already ate before in 2000's with just better versions ? As a Gamer I'm really sick of playing similar games but it is really hard to find unique games.
As a Gamer eventhough the Genre is same I would really love to play some complex unique themed games , Western games like Red Dead Redemption , A better Zombie Apocalpyse games , however I really don't like the current situation but I still play because I like playing games. Do you think Gaming Studios keeping it simple because they are already profitting because of their name ?
Yes, I think they keep it simple, because they already make a profit. Games from Total War series are very expensive, because their uniqueness made them popular. But they are not so hard to produce, as you can simply copy half the code from the previous.
It is best seen on Stardock's 4x turn based space strategy. It was called somehow Galactic ----, there were 3 games, second and the third shared exactly same ship designer.
Creating deep games is difficult and doesn't always pay off and costs more time than copying your older work, improving it's most outdated parts and publishing again.
I think similar but never heard about Stardock I should check it out thanks
Or, they just keep milking from what they already have. A great example is Valve and their games. Do you think they will ever bother count to 3? Probably not, as long as Steam remains a major platform for PC gamers.
