There are pros and cons in growing herbs like potted sage. The disadvantages are that plants can not grow much in general, and should be looked at more carefully because the bottom of the pots dries faster. The benefits are that they are easier to capture water, control the amount of sunlight and get more easily when you need fresh herbs. They are also a solution if you do not have outdoor space to plant them. Herbs can even grow in homes. A big advantage is that they can be grown throughout the year.

Sage has a moderate root system, which means the roots are deep and shallow. If you grow in a pot, the plant should have room for the roots, but unlike plants like tomatoes, the pot should not be very large.

A six inch wide and six-inch deep pot works well with sage. It should be noted that sage is a perennial plant, so it works well in larger pots, especially after the first year. The leaves tend to be larger when the plant has more space. However, since sage belongs to the tick, it will be great with reasonable care in a six to six-inch pot.

The pot should also have drainage holes on the bottom. canned elders should not stay for long periods of time in the water, they drown because the roots and putrefaction and kill the plant.

Sage does not need rich land. In fact, if the soil is too rich, the plant can be long and weak, with more stems than the leaves. recommend some sources do not use a garden soil to grow herbs, but never had trouble growing, the grass in the garden soil until it is too rich. You can use the pot bottom, but neither should be rich.

Start by placing a centimeter or small stones on the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage. The stones should be a little larger than the drainage holes.

If you start with a seedling in a two-inch pot, place approximately two inches of the Earth in the gravel at the bottom of the pot, press gently. Remove the plant from the starter tray and place the sod at the bottom of the tub, then fill the pot with the earth around the plant. The dirt should be at the height of the plant that was in the starting plate. The floor must also be pressed during the operation.

After planting sage, spray the soil well and drain the excess water.

Sage is a plant that loves the sun. A little shade is tolerated, but to get the best results, place the vase in front of a window with plenty of suns. Alternatively, it can be grown under a grow light. In summer, the pot can be brought outdoors, so that the wise person receives fresh and very sunny air. It can be a decorative plant when placed on a railing of the terrace or in a hanging vase.

Too much water is deadly for sage, as already indicated. In a pot, the balance is a little harder to find, but the best idea is to water the plant well and drain the excess water. Do not water again until the soil is sufficiently dry or the plant needs water. Sage is a plant that leans when it needs and needs water. However, be careful because it can also fall if the air temperature increases enough so that the roots can not absorb the water at the speed of transpiration of the plant. This does not mean that you really need water, so you should test the dirt with your finger to make sure it is dry. Remember, however, that the soil in a pan usually dries much faster than the garden soil.

Sage can become very dense with the leaves. It is recommended to cut the leaves and/or stems to allow the circulation of the air. If this is not the case and you live in a very humid area, mold can become a serious problem and kill the plant. In fact, a mold is one of the few problems that wisely.

The stems that are cut can be placed in pots with water to obtain wiser plants if they are not cut and used for dinner or for medical purposes. Excess stems and leaves can also be easily dried in the air.

The three main problems of Sage and the main causes of crop failure are over-irrigation, over-fertilization and mold growth. There are few pests or diseases that affect this resistant plant. The plant is a wonderful plant to grow in pots and it is not difficult to do. There are still many herbs that are easier to grow, except perhaps oregano. Having something in a pot makes it easier to flavor pork, chicken, turkey, sausage, vegetables, venison, and elk. The sausage made with fresh sage is much better than the sausage made with dried sage. It is also an aromatic herb with a good smell, which gives it a good aroma during growth.
