Ever got Skunked?

The spotted skunks are mostly nocturnal, but sometimes they break in during the day and soon return to their dens, which are usually empty tunnels in the ground. Sometimes they nest in hollowed trees, but it is not common.

These skunks are found in different areas, from plains to hot and dry areas and in mountain forests. They resist a variety of temperatures and their food is as varied as their habitat.

A spotted skunk is a trained predator and is an expert in hunting small rodents, snakes and insects. They also fish in shallow waters for fishing, crustaceans, snails, and amphibians. These skunks are good climbers and eat birds and bird eggs. They not only have good hunting skills, but also sharp teeth to capture, retain, kill and devour their prey.

Like their stripped cousin, they have few problems eating other informal foods like cereals, nuts, seeds, and berries. These foods are not basic, but it is easy to understand why the stained skunks are so common, with such a large diet. It must also be said that they are not afraid of humans, even if by nature they are timid creatures. Fortunately, they will enter a field where food has been left out. In fact, we specifically left the food for the skunk that visited us every night after the first visit. The food that was left out was still gone in the morning, but the little fox stopped going to our food store.

If the marbled mittens are adorable, their children are even more. From three to eight puppies arrive in the middle or late spring and again look like kittens. Mothers are very protective and can handle much larger predators in their defense. If it does not attract the attention of these predators, thieves often escape, even after kicking their front legs, when they turn and raise their tails. These skunks are quite accurate with their spray in 8-12 feet.

Spotted skunks are also skunking family acrobats. They can walk on their front legs, with their hind legs in the air, and maneuver in incredible ways to see. For this reason, they are sometimes kept as pets but remember that they are also intrinsically curious and find a way to get into almost everything. However, having a skunk will rarely be a problem with domestic mice. Even domestic cats cannot match the ability of spotted skunks to catch mice.

Spotted skunks are beautiful animals that do more good than harm. It is difficult to know that you are close to because of the normal absence of the strong odor for which striped skunks are known. They are less demanding to tame than most wild creatures and even outside it is uncommon for a spotted skunk to cause issues.
