One of the most essential and effective memory technique is also regrettably one of the least well known. If you can remember about it and apply it diligently, you will certainly feel its positive effects.

Here is how it works: Whenever you do remember something important during your day, do something about it promptly. For example, you wake up in the morning and remember to prepare your breakfast. So, you do it! By doing it immediately, your brain gets the message that thinking about your breakfast is important because it is immediately followed by action on this matter. This helps ensure that you remember about your breakfast. Now as you prepare your breakfast, you suddenly remember that you have to send an associate a letter today. Now, don't just make a mental note of it because your brain will not be able to associate your idea with any tangible worldly action and so your idea will not be re-inforced and your subconscious will then inform your brain that your thought of sending an associate a message is not important thinking because it doesn't get you to do anything. Your subconscious may even tell your brain to delete the mental note you made because it is associated with a thought that was determined as unimportant through your absence of physical reaction to it. The end result is that you forget all about it.

To avoid forgetting in the above scenario, there are a number of options available to you. All of them will involve doing something about what you just remembered. My favorite response would be to put my cooking in hold one minute to go and pick up a card in my drawer and put it on the table where I will be eating my breakfast in a few minutes. This way, when I reach my breakfast table and see the card, it will remind me once more of what I need to do. Also, because of my immediate reaction, my brain now associates the idea of writing a card with immediate action and treats this memory as a high priority one, making it even more likely that I will remember about it even if I don't remember why there is a card on my breakfast table once I've reached my breakfast area.

Also, by doing something like this, you show an appreciation for this memory technique outlined here and this makes it more likely that you will remember to use it again. That's why knowing about memory techniques means using them because if you don't, you will forget about them for sure.

So if you can put this particular memory technique to work today and one year from now you still remember it, make sure to inform me of that. It will come as a great pleasure for me to hear from you.

You're welcome. Good luck with it!

Training the brain to get more rational in getting things done. Value share this one. Thanks.

Well, that's another way to put it. With practice, you can get insights into how your brain, memory and subconscious work together. Thanks for sharing and you're very welcome.

When it comes to memory, I have found lately that it is acctually not so bad after all. I'm going for memorising the pass phrases. Just realized, there is no real good way of storing them totally secure other than eventually doing like the squirrels, digging them down on various locations in the woods.

One thing I deplore about memory is it's strong association with its ability to give you access to this or that when it should --
in my opinion-- rather be associated with your ability to play with this or that. IMO, only when you learn to play and engage with your memory can you get to appreciate it, and it appreciate you. The thing about pass phrase is that it's not the best toy there is for memory.
