When @antikesdenken and I visited Tikal earlier this year, our shaman guide stressed that one should not call it "ruins". The temples are still in use by them today, so they prefer the sites to be called temples or archeological sites.
Our visit made a deep impression on me and it was exhilarating to go there again today, looking at the ancient place through your eyes this time. Thank you for sharing.

Thats true, with all mayan temples by the way and also aztecs as they still exist. But not all the buildings are temples, some are observatories and buildings where they used to live, it is the whole city there, which are not all in use so I guess its ok to call that part ruins ;)
