POEM: GOOD FIRE
Every story summons
Equivalent wind
Bend the smoke from your articles
Our reaction is hindered
And we lean to the center for warmth
Crushed stones underfoot
The log water crackles into space
You end your story
And tell me to share my face
I swat blood suckers
Darting between the embers
I part the silence
As the heat slips past the boulder
Everyone gets a turn
To whisper ash through smoke
As characters give their life
So we can taste birth
