Travel With Me The Temples Of India 6: Neelkanth Mahadev Temple | Rishikesh, Uttarakhand
Neelkanth Mahadeo Temple is among the chief sacred places of India. This temple is on the steep top of hill and this is located on the outskirts of Rishikesh (meaning hair of Rishis) and on the top of a hill at a height of 1675m is a temple mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva.
According to Shiv Piran mythology during Samudra Manthan a very strong and dangerous venom the Halahal that oozed out and to save the whole world and mankind this Halahal was ingested by Lord Shiva at this very place and hence the name Neelkanth Mahadeo. Because the Almighty Lord Shiva hold this venom on his neck and his throat is now blue and so Neelkanth Mahadeo name reknowned to the world.
