RE: Public Domain

First, I am not a lawyer.

I feel like much of the purpose of copyright is at odds with the sharing economy that the internet has built in many cases. So while you may retain copyright over the writings that you produce, the fact that you publish them on a site like Medium or Steemit shows that you're the original author and that you want your writing to be disseminated far and wide.

Also, that you feel like you should be compensated for your hard work.

A site like Steemit goes even further since we can cryptographically prove that it was your account that published a given piece. So while you may be able to claim that your account was hacked, you would then lose any reputation you had built.

If you publish copyrighted content that you had stolen from another source it's permantently added to the blockchain, so you can't go back and remove it or edit it, or give credit where credit is due (within the post itself, you can do it in a comment).

I imagine that copyright is going to continue to be problematic on the Internet for the rest of humanity's existence.
