Ethereum developers want to turn EIP 867 into public debate

Ethereum developers have called for a public debate about what steps should be taken at the software level to return high profile hacking and funds lost in their incidents.

At Friday's weekly gathering, developers talked about a controversial Ethereum healing suggestion, EIP 867, which advocates a method of returning stolen money to potential victims. The offer turned out to be a lightning rod as it advocated the use of systematic software updates as a possible correction

Ethereum developers want to turn the matter into public debate

At the meeting it was not surprising that both views were passionate about their own arguments. Nonetheless, others have sought a solution for making public debate, which is more moderate.

Ethereum developer Vlad Zamfir said to the participants:

"These proposals, which in particular identify important examples, are suggestions that affect the relationship between the community and the platform. I think the public should be subject to an open debate. I'm not sure EIP is designed to come from above this process. "

In turn, community manager Hudson Jameson said he believed the debate was in the social media. Similarly, independent developer Alexey Akhunov proposed a live video discussion among developers.

Developer Piper Merriam warned that a live debate is "politician-based" and said the debate should remain in writing. Otherwise it will turn into popularity competition.

For example, EIP 867 is managed by Dan Phifer, a lesser-known developer than Musiconomi, who has lost a considerable amount of ether in freezing her last year's parity.

EIP editor Yoichi Hirai refused at first because he could not fulfill what he suggested as "Ethereum philosophy". But these sequences adopt a more liberal approach to the role, with the phrase "EIP repository like Twitter". "Everybody can say what they want and I can combine them," he says.

For now, no further action will be taken on the proposal until the process of accepting the code changes detailed in EIP-1 has been completed. But Jameson said such discussions speed up such efforts

Decisions decisions. Would be nice, but opens the door for complainers to abuse it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
