Conforming with societal norms; good or bad?
Humans are naturally social beings, so it is no surprise if they live their lives conforming to societal norms.
As humans, we fear rejection from other humans. We dread the thought of being different, or perhaps, being seen as different, because the fact is, all of us are different and unique in our own ways.
As a teenager, I started rejecting a lot of "herds mentality" way of living. I stopped doing things because every other person is doing it. People see me as weird, but I'm happy living my life the way I want it.
Conforming with societal norms has deprived a lot of people happiness and fulfilment of their dreams. People just want to impose what they believe on you without minding your choices.
A Nigerian musician, Peter Okoye from the Psquare group has constantly been attacked by fans and family because he married an older lady. Here in my part of the world, people frown at it when the woman is older. But has anyone ever bothered to care about the young man's happiness? He found love and peace in that woman, so why the attack? Because he didn't follow societal norms?
I'm not here to tell you what is good or bad. But I don't believe in conforming with societal norms. At least, some that don't align with my own beliefs. I will not blame those who believe in it either. However, don't try to superimposed it on me too. And please don't get me wrong. I am not against orderliness.

Interesting thoughts! Although some societal norms are good and necessary for a stable society, I also think that people should be allowed to pursue great dreams, stay with whomever they love etc.
Thanks very much for your response @dlio. I that's the reason I said I'm not against orderliness. Some are good, but some temper with own personal interest.
