RE: The Day When Blockchain And, Even, Steem Mean Little

in #busy7 years ago

... this one is will suddenly get millions of people to sign up.

My feeling is that the goal should not be getting millions of people to sign up. Instead as monitization (like ads through Condenser) takes hold a system should be put in place to share those revenues with stake holders like sending out their interest payments on their VEST. Then great content creators will be beating down our doors and where good content goes so goes the eyes and where the eyes goes goes ad revenue.

Sort:

I think that this is a great approach to take to it personally.

Good point, signing up does not equate to retention. But, I sincerely don't like the approach that some standard of quality should be met here. Light blogging has its place and the majority of the world prefers to see what their friends ate on vacation or that lil Timmy ate broccoli today. To keep people around here we must also address an allowance to let people post what they want and to also not feel lost in a sea of steemians that are drawn to big wallets and high rep scores. Ideally the quality of content thing should sort itself out with a better system of incentives.

Imagine releasing a movie or an album on this blockchain, I'm talking beyond blogging which basically anyone literate can do, which is why millions do it as a hobby, making this reward thing very precarious, anyway. With only seven days to earn and having no good way to increase exposure to quality consumers what's the point of making anything that's actually entertaining for the masses... "Quality consumers" think about that folks, where do they fit in this fantasy?

Light blogging has its place...

Allow me to humbly suggest that FB is that place. Why reinvent the wheel?

Then why do steemians cheer for dapps like actifit and share2steem? They promote some pretty ridiculously mundane posts.. Furthermore, I don't see that much decent content on here anyway. I just will never understand the elitist attitude..Reddit with monetization isn't exactly that great of an idea IMHO which is basically what this blockchain is, so why not use our own discretion and faith in the system to first use the social media motto of scroll on if you don't like it. And secondly if it's really bugging you flag it.. Otherwise, pretending that due to luring people in with money will create good content is preposterous. It also only functions so long as the price of steem is up, which is why we see such drastic changes in activities when the price is pennies as it is now. No normal person is going to be impressed by blockchain so it's only a selling point for niche markets, it's just a network, that's all, and it's not even really decentralized so it cannot be romanticized or heralded as some remarkable offering to the world. if everyone here has the opinion that casual posting etc. should stay on FB IG etc.. there is really no point in all this alliance stuff, if a bridge can't be built to everyday people due to arrogance there is no hope to be had.

Having never used either dApp you will have to ask another cheering Steemian. 😎

Otherwise, pretending that due to luring people in with money will create good content is preposterous.

Admittingly it is a subjective observation, but with the lowering of the price the overall quality of posts has increased in my opinion.

Could not agree more that the blockchain is only a decentralized ledger yet with the potential to be used for so much more than just a social media dApp. We see its use in gaming starting to emerge, for example, with such developments as Steem Monsters and SteemNova.

My wildest dreams see the steem blockchain as a potential open source version of Bitcoin Core's Lighting Network; offering scalability in transactions for all and any other Proof of Work coins.

Why fill such a potentially rich network with FB drivel when FB exists already? In my opinion it only attacks steem's scalability by bloating the blockchain while adding no real value.

Meanwhile, quality content will bring eyes to the blockchain with anything from quality howto's to well written travel guides. That traffic can then be monitized once Condenser can handle advertisements. Such value is no longer aesthetics at that point, but real ching ching.

Again in my wildest dreams the revenue from such monitization is shared with the active user base using the present system of interest payments on Steem Power.

To me the STEEM Network is in its infancy, having only just begun to deal with scalability. There are uses beyond its present ones that we have yet to imagine. To see it only as a FB substitute is limiting in vision, in my opinion.

@novacadian This is a perfect example of quality existing within the comments section which is what I enjoy the most about this very new platform. All of your observations are dead on and I'm in complete agreement in regards to the potential here and understand the "why bloat the blockchain with fb drivel"

I really like your wildest dream of steem and think it's attainable. Just the same as we didn't see cell phones becoming our sole means of navigation in the late 90s, new unforeseen services and forms of entertainment will be spawned from blockchain.

Great reply!! I wish I could reward you with more than a thank you and half .005 USD
