Splinterlands Sunday!: You Win Some, You Lose Some!

The increase in players continues to make Season ends very interesting as the mix of strategies and new approaches continue to challenge players as they compete to reach the top of the Leaderboards and Divisions. There was an improvement overall this Season as all Top 50 players reached Champion Division I but there were still those that missed out being in the highest Division despite being in the top 100. I was almost one of the those players despite being less than 200 points away with two full days left in the Season. It impacted by Energy Capture Rate to get there but it was well worth it.

The extra cards provided do well for a Collection that still needs to improve some of the newly release Reward Edition cards. I have found a couple quite useful although changes in abilities by the developers have also left me in a holding pattern given the uncertainty of future changes. Unfortunately, the 150 Reward Edition cards for reaching Champion Division I did not yield any Legendaries despite having enough potions active for more than half of them. However, as I title the post, you win some and lose some as we go along. I am still lucky to have received a Gold Foil Legendary last Season so that luck can only last for a short period.

You can clearly tell how active the game and community has been as the amount of Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) earned every match continues to decline quite aggressively. I feel that I am getting about 60% of what I was getting only 2-3 Seasons ago. This has made me hoard the DEC I am earning and am actually looking at the market closely as it seems that the price declines. It could be that since new players are earning more, they are also selling it which puts pressure on the price. However, considering how the developers are basically pegging the value of the DEC when buying their items in the shop, it may be of value to buy and/or hold DEC.

With the late boost at the end of the Season to get into Champion Division I, I thought that I had a good chance to place into the Top 50 for a second consecutive Season. In fact, before going to sleep with only 4 hours left to the Season, I was ranked 35! I thought that it would be enough to survive the final hours and stay in the Top 50. However, in hindsight, I should have probably focused on ranked points as only 50 points separated my rank from 50th. At the end, I finished 53rd and less than 10 points away from placing in the Top 50! Again, you win some and lose some!

The cycle of ups and downs continues for me as some days are frustrating and horrible while others are exciting and very rewarding. As growth continues, I still feel that I will be able to compete less and less at the top. However, I believe that my participation and engagement will continue to reward me and add value to the foundation I have created with my Collection. Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it but the reality is that I am still enjoying the gameplay as it keeps me thinking more often than not.

While my engagement may evolve in the future, I still think that the roadmap continues to be encouraging from both a player and collector's perspective. Despite value recently taking a hit, I think that the amount of gameplay and players involved continues to be encouraging for the future of both the game and the ecosystem!
