Basic Income is one of those utopian concepts that most developed countries cannot understand and therefore do not back because they believe that it is a zero sum game which would eat into their own income. This is unfortunate as basic income could have a multiplier effect to improve the lives of all the population involved. EOS could have alternative motives as well as they have always looked for ways to ensure a broad distribution of their token (remember the year-long ICO) which could be done with this concept.
