IMEI Function: Help Track Missing Mobile Phone "Evidence of the Technological Sophistication"
The Ministry of Communications and Information has recently enrolled prepaid SIM card registration for mobile service users. In the near future, the government will also enforce IMEI mobile registration.
For mobile users, you may often see 'IMEI' in a mobile phone box or some type of phone number. However, not many people know what IMEI is and what it does.
IMEI itself stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity consisting of 15 to 16 numbers. This number is given by the global agency GSMA.
Easily, IMEI is similar to NIK on the Identity Card (KTP), but for mobile phones. For mobile operators, IMEI is useful for detecting devices listed on their networks.
Starting from how many customers are using Android phones, or how many customers are using phones that support 4G technology. In Indonesia, IMEI numbers are registered with the Ministry of Industry prior to circulating in the market.
However, many mobile users do not know what the use of IMEI number is. The easiest, IMEI is to detect the presence when the phone is lost.
Currently there are many security applications provided by the operating system. However, IMEI numbers can be an option if the customer does not have a security application.
The trick is not as easy as the application. The losing customer must go to the operator's outlet to ensure their mobile position.
Right now, that number is what the government will start to do registration. Director of Electronics and Telematics Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Achmad Rodjih Almanshoer, reveals the registrations to ward off the black market action of mobile phones.
"We will cooperate with GSMA to sync IMEI in Kemenperin with GSMA," said Rodjih when found in Jakarta, Wednesday (14/3). [ @nanr95 ]
