Rabies
Rabies is a zoonotic disease transmitted from rabies-transmitted animals (HPR) to humans through bites. More than 99% of human rabies cases are caused by dog bites. Almost half of all human deaths due to rabies occur in children under 15 years of age. Rabies is considered a neglected disease for the poor living in rural areas. the ratio of rabies incidence between urban and rural areas is 20% to 80%.
If a dog bites a person, the virus will enter the body and attack the central nervous system. Without special treatment, the person's chances of dying are 100%. Therefore, the bitten victim should be immediately given anti-rabies vaccine (VAR) which cost quite high. the high cost of VARs often causes obstacles to low-income and very low-income people in rural areas.
Rabies in humans ranks 7th among infectious diseases, but human death can be prevented.rabies in animals is considered not harmful economically, but its eradication is actually beneficial to the health sector that should share the cost of eradicating together. However, developing countries including Indonesia have not been able to eradicate rabies, because of its low priority both from public health and animal health aspects.
Are there lots of dogs with Rabies in your place? I hope the government will do some community work of going around and giving vaccines to the dogs themselves. Our small town in Philippines has this kind of project.
Stay safe!
very many dogs have been infected with rabies virus in recent years. very disturbing society. the government provides the vaccine but not the whole area is channeled
