Can't fault your reasoning here. There's no way you're losing money on them. The only way you'll regret the decision is if Steem spikes all of a sudden. Hard to see that happening without dragging up the value of the cards too, though.
Not worried about Steem spiking as I continue to buy more every month. I think the scarcity factor will kick in as we approach the end of the inventory of Beta packs.
